  • 10 janvier 2013 Shallow Groundwater Quality and Geochemistry in the Fayetteville Shale Gas-Production Area, North-Central Arkansas, 2011 The Mississippian Fayetteville Shale serves as an unconventional gas reservoir across north­-­central Arkansas, ranging in thickness from approximately 50 to 550 feet and varying in depth from approximately 1,500 to 6,500 feet below the ground surface. Primary permeability in the Fayetteville Shale is severely limited, and successful extraction of the gas reservoir is the result of advances in horizontal drilling techniques and hydraulic fracturing to enhance and develop secondary fracture porosity and permeability. Drilling and production of gas wells began in 2004, with a steady increase in production thereafter.   • 1 avril 2012 COMPARISON OF ELECTRICITY PRICES Every year, Hydro-Québec compares the m­onthly electricity bills of Québec customers in the resi­dential, commercial, institutional and industrial sectors with those of customers of the various utilities serving 21 major North American cities. This report details the principal conclusions of this comparative analysis of prices in effect on April 1, 2012. There are three sections. The first describes the method used to estimate electricity bills. The second examines the highlights of the seven consumption levels analyzed, with the help of charts. Finally, the third section presents the results of the 21 consumption levels for which data were collected and compiled in the form of summary and detailed tables. Nous aimerions rappeler certains faits qui permettront de mieux comprendre les enjeux liés à l’électricité au Québec. Grâce à ses centrales hydroélectriques, plus de 98 % de l’électricité produite par Hydro-Québec provient d’une énergie renouvelable, propre et fiable. Peu de pays présentent un bilan de production d’électricité aussi enviable. En Europe de l'Ouest par exemple, près de 50 % de la production totale d’électricité provient des combustibles fossiles, dont le charbon, et plus de 25 % du nucléaire.   • 13 février 2004 The Cost of Generating The objective of this study is to provide decision makers with simple, soundly based indicators of the cost performance for alternative electricity generation technologies. The scope required a certain amount of simplification and approximation of issues that would be of at most importance to a commercial organisation making an investment decision in the electricity generation market. These include treatment of risk and uncertainty, security of supply of fuel and project financial structures as well as market and regulation issues. The Academy believes that a more comprehensive treatment would be of value to policy makers.
